strap placement for car seat?
I take care of my nepew four days a week and I have him in a car seat which is anchored, tethered, and belted in according to the manufacturer and the police department. However, my issue is the shoulder straps. He has outgrown the 2nd position, but isn't big enough for the 3rd. I've switched them twice now because I doubt myself. It doesn't say anything in the manual, but he's 4 yrs old and forward facing so his straps should be an inch above his shoulders. However, there is a 2 inch gap between the 2nd and 3rd position. If I put him in the 2nd, it goes below his shoulders which the handbook says is a no-no unless he's rear facing, which he's not. If I put it in the 3rd, it's an inch above. When it's in the 3rd position, the straps are tight enough, but I still worry. What do you think? 2nd or 3rd? I will NOT put him in a booster--not worth the risk and the seat holds him in a 5 pt until 80 lbs (Britax Husky/Regent).
The straps in a forward facing seat should always be at or ABOVE the shoulders. It has to do with the "force" the child will be pushed in if you were to have a crash.also make sure the retainer clip is at the armpit level. Great car seat-
